The gap between high school and college
_ This essay was the first essay I wrote for Composition 2. I
had not written a paper for about a year before this class. I was very nervous
to begin writing again but this paper broke that ice. From the start of class
until we began writing this paper we had done a lot of research under the umbrella
of education. Our class was instructed to write a paper three to five pages
long. My first reaction to being assigned a paper is panic. After I thought
about the prompt for a while, I realized the information was very intriguing. I
really enjoyed reading articles about education because it was about college
students. I soon realized this paper was a lot less stressful then I first made
it out to be. I began focusing on the gap between high school and college. I
found this even more interesting because it became more relatable. This was a
very fun paper to write. For the first time I really enjoyed the topic I was
writing about and I was eager to learn more. I had written about topics I had
liked before but never a topic that I did not know much about before that time.
I enjoyed writing the first college paper I had written about the Oklahoma
State Equine Program, but the format of that paper was in my comfort zone. With
this paper, I could not use the typical five-paragraph paper. I was challenged
to explore different ways of writing when trying to write three to five pages
worth of information. This paper was a very good challenge for my writing. I received
a “B” on this paper and much like my very first paper; it gave me another
confidence boost. Exactly what I needed when I was trying to jump back into
college writing.
